U.S. TSA Secure Flight Program

As of October 31, 2009, as required under the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA)'s Secure Flight Program, Air Canada, along with other airlines, will collect and send to the TSA the following additional information - Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) when you book a flight to, from or via the United States:
  • Full name as it appears on the passport (mandatory)
  • Date of birth (mandatory)
  • Gender (mandatory)
  • *Redress Number (optional)
You will need to provide the above information at least 72 hours prior to travel and can do so using our convenient online Advance Passenger Information (API) form. If you book your flight through Air Canada Call Center, our agents will also collect the information. For bookings made within 72 hours of departure, the information must be provided at time of ticket purchase.

The purpose of the Secure Flight Program is to facilitate watch list matching and enhance the security of domestic and international commercial air travel. We've answered some of the most commonly asked questions about the Secure Flight Program and the provision of personal information.

Note: *A Redress Number is a unique number you can obtain from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security if you share the same name as someone on the U.S. watch list and have experienced difficulties during your travel screening when crossing U.S. borders.
